Fire Crews Tackle Glasgow School Blaze

Fire crews have been battling a fire at Glasgow Steiner School in Yorkhill, Scotland.

It is thought up to 60 children have been helped to safety following the blaze, which broke out in a classroom on the first floor of the independent school in the west end of Glasgow.

Fire crews were called at 11:30 on Tuesday morning.

Pupils were taken to a local community centre. No-one is thought to have been injured.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known. Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and Strathclyde Police will be investigating the incident.

Swansea Valley Crash Kills Two, Injures One

A car crash in the Swansea Valley has left two people dead and a third injured in hospital.

The accident happened when a silver Renault Clio car left the A474 Neath Road in Pondardawe at around 19:00 on Tuesday evening.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene while the third was taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

The road was closed for around seven hours following the incident.

Roads Closed Following Birmingham Fire

Main roads into Birmingham have been closed following a fire which caused a shop to collapse.

Kings Heath High Street was closed by police between York Road and Silver Street.

The blaze fire broke out at Cash Converters shortly after 05:00 this morning.

Police are treating it as suspicious. No-one is thought to have been hurt.

Men Arested Over Street Fight Death

Two men have been arrested after a man was killed in a street fight in North Lanarkshire at the weekend.

Anthony Dryden died following an altercation in Airdrie on Saturday. He was found injured by police, who had been called to Stonefield Street at about 16:10 on Saturday evening.

Mr Dryden was taken to Monklands Hospital, but died the following day.

Two men, aged 22 and 25, have been arrested in connection with his death.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Tube Station Shuts Following Accidental Blast
A busy London tube station was forced to close last night, following an electrical explosion nearby. Bond Street Station was closed for around 50 minutes at approximately 8pm on Thursday after a blast at a Foot Locker store on Oxford Street.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

Chief Fire Officer Resigns Over Child Porn Arrest
A top fire officer for the West Midlands Fire Service has resigned after he was arrested on suspicion of making indecent images of children. West Midlands Police arrested Frank Sheehan, 55, yesterday at his home in Sutton Coldfield.
