UK Uncut Announce ‘Day of Action’
Anti-cuts activists, UK Uncut, are to launch a campaign of "mass civil disobedience" targeting the homes of prominent people as part of a campaign against the government's plans for a "bedroom tax" on Saturday 13 April.
The group, which has staged a series of high profile events against the government's austerity policies and last summer staged a sit-in outside Nick Clegg's London home, said it would be "bringing the cuts home to millionaire misery makers" and politicians during a day of action next month.
Ethical Easter Eggs Rated In Survey
A survey of more than 70 brands by Ethical Consumer magazine and charity Rainforest Foundation UK (RFUK) has found that Lindt, Thorntons and Guylian came bottom of a green ranking of Easter eggs based on their use of palm oil.
The organisations are launching a campaign in response to the increasing threat that unsustainable palm oil is posing to the world's rainforests, their indigenous wildlife, and the people whose livelihoods depend on the forests.
The aim of the campaign is to encourage consumers to buy the best-rated products, forcing those companies that are not taking their environmental responsibilities seriously to use more sustainably sourced palm oil.
Divine Chocolate came out top of the list, with the Co-operative and Sainsbury's close behind.
School Bans Triangular Flapjacks
Triangular flapjacks have been banned at Castle View school, Essex, after a pupil was injured by one.
It is understood that one of the triangular shaped snacks was thrown and hit a pupil in the face.
Dinner staff at the school, in Canvey Island, Essex, have told to cut the treat into squares or rectangles following the incident.
A spokesman for Castle View school said: "I can confirm that the texture and shape of the flapjacks were reviewed following an isolated accident last week."
