Da Vinci Drawings To Be Displayed Alongside Modern Scans

Anatomical drawings made by Leonardo da Vinci are to be displayed for the first time alongside modern 3D films, CT and MRI scans, showing just how close the Renaissance artists drawing where to reality.

Some of the Leonardo drawings from the Royal Collection – which owns one of the greatest collections of his work in the world – have never been exhibited before in Britain, including the complete set of 18 sheets known as Anatomical Manuscript A, on which he crammed more than 240 drawings and some 13,000 words of notes in his unmistakable mirror-writing.

E-Books Added To ONS Inflation Basket

E-books have been added to the basket of goods used to calculate the UK's rate of inflation, but Freeview set-top boxes are out.

The latter has been replaced in the basket by digital television recorders, signalling the changing face of technology.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) updates the basket each year so the contents accurately reflect current trends in spending.

The basket contains about 700 items.

British Museum Remains Most Visited UK Tourist Attraction

The British Museum was the UK's most popular visitor attraction in 2012 - the sixth year running it has been so.

The Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (Alva) said the London venue attracted 5.6 million visitors.

Artist Damien Hirst's retrospective contributed to a 9% rise in Tate Modern visitors, which had 5.3 million.

Despite bad weather and the Olympics, there was an overall 5.1% increase in visitors at all UK attractions, from 87.7 million in 2011 to 92.1 million.

Shopping Basket Thefts Rise After Carrier Bag Levy
A Tesco store in Oldham has fitted its shopping baskets with security tags after a sudden rise in thefts following the introduction of the carrier bag charge. It is understood that a third of the stores baskets were stolen in the week since the new charge was brought in on 04 October, according to a report by the BBC.

New Stonehenge Visitor Centre To Open
English Heritage has announced that the newly built Stonehenge visitor centre will open on Wednesday. The £27m project was built to "restore the dignity" of the monument and includes the grassing over of the A334 road, which previously ran alongside Stonehenge.

Work Begins On New £27m Stonehenge Visitor Centre
Work has begun on a new £27m ‘out of sight’ visitors centre at Stonehenge. English Heritage has said the new site will transform the area from a "national embarrassment" into a tranquil setting for one of the world's great prehistoric monuments.
