Clean-Up Underway As Oil Washes Up On Coastline
Deposits of oil have been found along a 15-mile stretch of coastline, prompting a clean-up operation.
A number of seabirds have been found dead between Scarborough and Speeton, after heavy seas and strong easterly winds brought the oil ashore.
It is understood the deposits, some the size of a plate, began to build up on Sunday afternoon, and beach users, mainly surfers, were advised to stay out of the sea.
Scarborough Borough Council's head of environmental services, Andy Skelton, said the situation was being assessed.
