Nature Reserve Planned For Land's End
A nature reserve is being planned for Scotland's Land's End, following a unanimously approved community buy-out.
A local trust says it believes it will be possible to raise the £300,000 asking price for the Mull of Galloway through the government's Scottish Land Fund.
The 30-acre site is being sold by the National Lighthouse Board as part of an asset disposal programme. The lighthouse tower is not included in the sale and will continue to operate as normal.
The Mull of Galloway Trust has been established to secure the site as a nature reserve and tourist attraction.
The Trust was required to demonstrate community support in order to attract funding.
541 local residents were balloted and 347 votes were cast. Only three voted against the proposal, while two papers were spoiled.
The Trust will now prepare a business plan and formally apply for funding.
