Taxi Driver And Woman Killed In Crash

Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating a three car collision on Cranbrook Road at Knoxbridge in which two people have died.

The collision happened just before 7.30pm last night.

The people who have been killed are a taxi driver from Maidstone, believed to be in his early 50s, and his front seat female passenger, also believed to be from the Maidstone area. Next of kin for both families have been informed.

A young girl in the back of the taxi was also seriously injured and was taken to a London hospital by air ambulance. She remains in a stable condition but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The drivers of the other two cars have been treated for minor injuries. They are a Maidstone man in his 40s who was driving a Chrysler and a woman in her mid 40s from the Maidstone area who was driving a Ford Galaxy.

The vehicles collided on a section of road that is a continuation of the A229 between Frittenden and Staplehurst in West Kent.

A two mile section of Cranbrook Road was closed for forensic examination between Pinnock Lane, where the petrol station is situated, and the café at Knoxbridge.
