Boiling Water Torturers Jailed

Two men who tortured and murdered a 70-year-old man have been jailed for a total of 54 years.

25-year-old Rocky Curtis and 24-year-old Robert Holmes, both of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, attacked Sonny Grey, from Lincoln, in his home on 29 October 2011.

Mr Grey died two days later.

Curtis will serve a minimum of 28 years and Holmes a minimum of 26.

Sonny Grey was beaten and throttled, possibly with a belt, and had boiling water poured over him at least twice.

After his death police found £9,000 hidden in his house.

The judge at Nottingham Crown Court described the crime as "merciless".

Appeal Issued For Missing 12-Year-Old
Police have appealed for help in tracing 12-year-old Casey Rooney, who has been missing for over a week. The child was last seen at home on Sunday 18 October. He has gone missing before, however not for this length of time, police said. Officers believe Casey has been with older friends.

Search Launched For Missing Girl
Police are appealing for assistance in tracing a 12-year-old girl who went missing in New Addington on Friday afternoon. Tia Sharp was last seen leaving her grandmother's home in New Addington at around 12.00hrs (midday) on Friday 3 August. Tia said she was going to the Whitgift Centre in Croydon town centre.

UK ships intercept £350m worth of cocaine
UK ships have seized around three-and-a-half tonnes of cocaine in an operation in the southwest Caribbean. The drugs, which had an estimated street value of £350 million, were seized in a joint operation involving ships from the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary on Wednesday.

Two And A Half Years For Attack On Taxi Driver
A man has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for an attack on a taxi driver, who was headbutten and bitten. 43-year-old James Pilgrim, of Newgate Road in Hastings, admitted causing actual bodily harm at a previous hearing before magistrates in the town.

Text Death-Crash Driver Jailed
A 21-year-old motorist, who sent and received more than 20 text messages, before she crashed into another car killing the driver, has been jailed for 21 months. Philippa Curtis from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk was today found guilty of causing the death by dangerous driving of Victoria McBryde, 24, of Horton, Hampshire, at Oxford Crown Court.
