Net Migration Falls By A Third

UK net migration fell by a third in year to June 2012 new immigration figures have shown.

163,000 more people came to live in the UK for 12 months or more than left, compared with 247,000 the year before, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.

The ONS say the drop is driven by immigration.

Meanwhile study remained the most common reason to come to the UK.

According to the ONS, immigration fell from 589,000 to 515,000.

It is understood that ministers want to cut net migration to the "tens of thousands" by 2015.
