Fish And Chips Fight Landlord Fined For Wasting Police Time

The pub landlord who alleged he fought off four attackers while keeping hold of his fish and chips, has withdrawn his statement and been fined for wasting police time.

37-year-old John Wood claims he was stabbed with a screwdriver near Frank's fish and chip shop in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.

However, after further questioning by police he has now withdrawn his statement leading to a fine of £80 for wasting police time.

"They fined me £80 because I said I wanted to withdraw my statement,” the BBC reported Mr Wood as saying.

He added: "I wanted to withdraw the statement because they were beginning to question whether my fiancee had done it. Then they said 'was it you who was self-harming?' I'd just had enough of it.”

Mr Wood maintains that "the attack did happen”.
