65-Year-Old Man Arrested In Operation Yewtree
A 65-year-old man has been arrested in London as part of Operation Yewtree; the investigation into sexual abuse established in the wake of revelations regarding the late broadcaster, Jimmy Saville.
The Metropolitan police have said the man was detained at an address in south London on suspicion of sexual offences.
It is thought the arrest is not directly linked to Jimmy Savile, but comes under the category known as "others".
The man is the 11th person to be arrested since Yewtree was launched.
The list of presenters and broadcasters detained so far includes Gary Glitter, comedians Freddie Starr and Jim Davidson, PR Max Clifford and former presenter Stuart Hall.
Mr Hall has been charged with rape and 14 counts of indecent assault.
Davidson, Clifford, Hall and Starr have denied the allegations of sexual offences.
Yewtree is an operation involving around 30 detectives examining claims of abuse, most of which occurred in the 1970s and 1980s.
Police say 589 people have come forward with information regarding the Savile scandal, with a total of 450 complaints specifically against the former 'Jim’ll Fix It' presenter.
31 allegations of rape have been recorded against Savile, while he is suspected to have been involved in 199 alleged crimes in 17 force areas.
