Meat Supplier Dropped By Tesco
Tesco has dropped meat supplier Silvercrest following the discovery of horse DNA in burgers, stating the, "breach of trust [was] simply too great".
The supermarket has said the meat in the offending burgers did not come from a list of "approved suppliers".
Going on to say it would introduce a DNA testing system for meat products to "ensure the quality" of its goods.
ABP Food Group, parent company of Silvercrest said it had "let customers down" and apologised for the failures.
An internal investigation by Tesco also found meat used by at the Silvercrest facility in County Monaghan, in the Republic of Ireland, originated from outside the UK and Ireland, contrary to the supermarket chain's policy.

Supermarket chain Tesco has vowed to work more closely with British farmers, promising to bring meat production “closer to home”. The move comes in response to the ongoing horsemeat scandal. Having already introduced a new testing process, the store has also said that from July all chicken sold in its UK stores will be from British farms.

Processed Meat 'Ups Heart Disease Risk'
Eating processed meat, but not ordinary red meat, may raise the risk of heart disease and diabetes, according to a new study. Researchers at Harvard School of Public Health have found that eating processed meat such as bacon or sausage can lead to a 42% higher risk of heart disease and a 19% higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
