Man jailed over hiring 'hitman' to kill wife

A man who attempted to pay a contract killer to murder his wife has been jailed today at Chester Crown Court.

George Fallows, a 57-year-old businessman, from Llangerny in Conwy, was jailed for five years after admitting to paying a man £10,000 to kill his wife Karen in September last year.

Fallows and his wife were going through a divorce at the time and the court heard that Fallows believed her settlement would cripple him financially.

The court heard that Fallows met with the the hitman, known as 'Mark', on three occasions. 'Mark' turned out to be an undercover police officer.

Anne Darwin, 55, formerly of Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool, Teesside, appeared before Hartlepool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, charged with dishonestly obtaining sums of £25,000 and £137,000 in 2003.

Man Jailed For Life For Murder Of Estranged Wife
A 50-year-old man has been jailed for life for the murder of his estranged wife. Neil Winn, of Watts Corner, Glastonbury, pleaded guilt at Bristol Crown Court to the murder of Lisa Winn on 26 February this year at their former marital home. The body of Mrs Winn (45) was found with multiple stab wounds in the rear garden of the house.

Boat Race Protester Faces Deportation
Trenton Oldfield, the man who disrupted last year's University Boat Race, has been refused leave to remain in the UK. According to the BBC, the Home Office said Mr Oldfield's presence in the UK was not "conducive to the public good".

Neglect Charges For Hanged Girl's Parents
The mother and stepfather of an eight-year-old girl who was found hanged in her bedroom have been charged with child neglect. Charlotte Avenall, 8, who had severe learning difficulties, was discovered hanged in her room in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, on the morning of 12 September.
