Foreign Office Tells Britons To Leave Libya

The Foreign Office has urged British nationals to immediately leave the Libyan city of Benghazi, following “a specific threat to Westerners".

Saying they could not comment further on the nature of the threat, the Foreign Office added that travel advice for Libya had changed and that the British Embassy in Tripoli had been in contact with British nationals whose details it had.

In September the Foreign Office had issued advice against travel to Benghazi and most parts of Libya.

This has now been updated after the recent French military intervention in Mali, with the office saying there was the possibility of retaliatory attacks against Western interests in the region.

There is also the threat of kidnapping in Libya.
