Monday Mornings Are Busiest Time For A&E
Hospital data has revealed that the busiest time for accident and emergency departments in England are Monday mornings.
The figures show that on Mondays there are some 4,000 cases per hour between 10am and midday, twice the average.
Late morning proved to be the busiest time of day throughout the week but Monday came out as the busiest single day.
The Health and Social Care Information Centre figures also show that A&E visits increased from 16.2m in 2010-11, to 17.6m in 2011-12.
"It is well-known of course that accident and emergency departments are very busy places,” chief executive of the Health and Social Care Information Centre Tim Straughan said.
Adding: "The fact that A&E services in England on average see twice the average number of new cases coming through the door collectively on a typical Monday morning indicates just how much society relies on these front line services."
