Tesco Issue Apology For Horsemeat Burgers

Supermarket chain Tesco has taken out a full-page ad apologising for the sale of beefburgers which were recently found to contain horsemeat.

In the advert, which appears in a number of UK newspapers, the supermarket said it and its supplier had let customers down and promised to find out "what happened".

The apology follows a discovery on Tuesday by Irish food inspectors that one brand of beefburger sold by Tesco contained almost 30% horsemeat.

Smaller amounts were also found in Iceland, Lidl, Aldi and Dunnes beefburgers.

Part of the advert, headlined "We Apologise", reads:

"We and our supplier have let you down and we apologise.

"So here's our promise. We will find out exactly what happened and, when we do, we'll come back and tell you.

"And we will work harder than ever with all our suppliers to make sure this never happens again."

Officials have reassured the public saying the contaminated products posed no threat to human health.
