Fatal Stabbings Investigation Continues

More information into the death of two men in Birmingham City Centre is being sought by west Midlands Police.

The men were stabbed just before 6pm on Friday 11 January. One man was found outside the Sainsbury’s store in Martineau Place whilst the other was found near Boots in Union Street having also suffered fatal injuries.

Officers and passers-by administered emergency first aid on both men, who were in their thirties, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified the men, but their details are not being released at this stage. Both men were known to frequent the city centre and one line of enquiry was that one of them was a Big Issue Seller.

A 23 year-old man arrested in connection with the deaths remains in custody. He was arrested minutes after the stabbing, but police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.

Supt Richard Moore, who is in charge of policing in the city centre, said: "There were lots of people around at this time who may have seen the incident or the offender leave the scene I am urging people to come forward at their earliest opportunity as they may have vital information."

Extra police reassurance patrols will be taking place in the city centre throughout the weekend.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on the 101 number.
