Terror-Related Arrests Increase 60%
The number of people arrested for terrorism-related offences has increased by over 60%, according to government figures.
The statistics show 228 suspects were arrested in England, Wales and Scotland in the 12 months to the end of June. This shows an increase, when compared to 140 in the previous year.
Numerous arrests were made at a Muslims Against Crusades protest at the US Embassy in 2011, according to the Home Office.
The Olympic Games in July may also have contributed, due to an increase in police activity.
Along with the figures, the report also stated that police have not yet used new stop and search measures since they were brought into force in March 2011.
Officers are allowed to stop and search people in certain areas even if there is no direct suspicion of involvement in terrorism-related activity.
The measures were adapted after the European Court of Human Rights ruled the original powers to be unlawful.
Incidents where stop-and-search powers were used by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of terrorist activity have fallen by just under half.
In the 12 months to the end of the June, 679 people were searched by Met police using the powers.
This showed a decline when compared with the 1,283 people in the previous 12 months.
Arrests were made after 5% of searches.
43 people jailed for terrorism-related offences were released from prison, including one who had been serving a life sentence.

Stop-And-Search Powers To Be Put Before Public Consultation
How police in England and Wales use stop-and-search powers is to be put up for public consultation. Figures for 2011-12 show that some 1.2m stops were used, with just 9% leading to an arrest. It is understood that the Home Secretary will announce the consultation, saying that the power to stop-and-search people needs to be used "more carefully".
