Royal Hoax Nurse Discovered Hanged

Jacintha Saldanha, a nurse fooled by the radio DJ hoax call to the London hospital treating the Duchess of Cambridge, was found hanged, an inquest has heard.

Westminster Coroner's Court learned that she was found dead in the nurses quarters on Friday.

The incident took place three days after she transferred the radio DJ spoof telephone call to a colleague who then gave a detailed update on the duchess's condition to the hoaxers.

Det Ch Insp James Harman told the court: "On Friday 7 December Jacintha Saldanha was found by a colleague and a member of security staff. Sadly she was found hanging.

"There was also injuries to her wrist. The London Ambulance Service was called to the scene. At this time there are no suspicious circumstances."

The 46-year-old wife and mother-of-two left two notes.

Keith Vaz MP, relayed the details of the brief inquest hearing to Mrs Saldanha's family by phone.

The inquest has been adjourned until 26 March.

Australia's media watchdog has launched a formal inquiry into the call, focusing on the licence-holder for 2DayFM radio station.

The presenters, Michael Christian and Mel Greig, have said they are "gutted and heartbroken" over the death.
