Woman Injured In Road Crash

A woman has been badly injured following a collision on the A862 near Inverness.

A van and a lorry were involved in the crash, which happened at about 07:40 on the A862 at Inchmore.

Firefighters freed the woman from her car, before she and the driver of the van were taken to hospital in Inverness for treatment.

The man driving the van is not thought to have been seriously injured, while the lorry driver was unhurt.

One-Year-Old Girl Dies In Cumbria

Police are investigating the sudden death of a one-year-old girl in Cumbria.

Paramedics were called to a house in Barrow just after 06:00.

The girl was taken to hospital and later died.

Cumbria Police are investigating on behalf of the coroner.

Man Re-arrested Over Siblings' Fire Death

A man has been rearrested by police over the deaths of four siblings in a fire in Lancashire.

Reece Smith, 19, four-year-old twins Holly and Ella and two-year-old Jordan died in the house fire at Lytham Road, Freckleton, on 7 January last year.

Police believe the fire was deliberate and was started by a naked flame inside a wardrobe. It was started at about 23:20.

The children died from smoke inhalation.

Earthquake Felt In Scotland

A small earthquake has been felt in Spean Bridge in Lochaber, Scotland.

The quake had a 1.6 magnitude and was recorded at 19:22 on Tuesday by the British Geological Survey (BGS).

It follows another 1.7 magnitude earthquake at 01:11 on 8 December near Sheildaig.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

Two Questioned Over Death Of Baby In House Fire
Police have arrested a man and a woman as part of the investigation into the death of an eight-month-old baby girl in a fire at a house in Enniskillen on Saturday. The man and woman have been arrested under the Children and Young Persons Act.

Money stolen in Securitas van raid
Police have launched an investigation after a Securitas van was robbed by a gang in Cheshire last night. The robbery happened in the Woolston area of Warrington on Wednesday night around 8:15pm. A Securitas security van, on route to a delivery, had been travelling behind a Volvo flatbed truck.
