Three Hurt In Level Crossing Crash
Two women and a child have been seriously injured during an accident on the Beech Hill level crossing in South Yorkshire.
The train collided with a car at the crossing on Springs Road near Finningley, in Doncaster, at 12:35pm.
The child has been airlifted to hospital.
Gun Crime Hits 34-year Low
Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has welcomed statistics that show the overall number of recorded offences in Scotland involving firearms has more than halved since 2006/07.
The number of offences recorded by Scotland's police forces fell 21 per cent, from 647 in 2010-11 to 514 in 2011/12.
This represents the lowest total recorded in Scotland in 34 years and marks a reduction of more than 50 per cent of 2006/07’s total of 1,260.
Elizabeth Price Celebrates Turner Prize Win
Video artist Elizabeth Price has won the Turner Prize for her video installation, The Woolworths Choir of 1979, 2012.
She uses archival images, text and music to create works exploring the human relationship to objects and consumer culture.
She won a £25,000 prize.

CCTV Failing To Catch Criminals
Eight images out of ten supplied to the police from closed-circuit television do not help to identify criminals, according to a Home Office report. The report also says that the majority of cameras are not placed where they can help to detect or prevent serious crimes or terrorist attacks.

Woman Dies During Charity Channel Swim
A woman from Barwell, Leicestershire, has died during a charity swim across the English Channel. Susan Taylor, who was in her 30s, got into difficulty while in the water and despite receiving treatment in a support boat was pronounced dead in Boulogne on Sunday.

Highest Ever Number Of Drug-Related Deaths Recorded In Scotland
The highest ever number of drug-related deaths in Scotland has been recorded in 2014, according to a new report. The National Records of Scotland report revealed 613 drug-related deaths were registered in in 2014, 86 (16%) more than in 2013. Males accounted for 74% of the deaths in 2014.

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt last night presented one of the culture sector's most prestigious accolades to one of the country’s most popular visitor attractions. The British Museum’s groundbreaking project A History of the World won the 2011 Art Fund Prize, worth £100,000.
