Pink Star Lit For April Jones

A pink star will become part of Christmas decorations in Machynlleth, Powys for missing five-year-old April Jones.

April was last seen near her home in the town on 1 October.

A man has been charged with her murder.

The one-metre-square star will be lit up with the rest of the lights this evening during the switching-on ceremony.

It is planned the star will remain lit every night over Christmas, but that other lights will be turned off overnight.

The colour pink has been used by the town since April’s disappearance as it is her favourite colour.

April's mother launched a ribbon appeal to support the search for her in the days after her disappearance.

The star is positioned on the town’s Maengwyn Street and will be taken down in the second week of January with the rest of the town's lights.

It was donated free of charge by a festive lights company in Kent.

On Saturday the Christmas tree lights in the town will be switched on.

The town is also holding an auction in aid of April’s Fund, set up in the young girl’s name. Donations have so far reached nearly £50,000.

The fund was set up by the town council in October, and it is as yet not known how the money will be spent.

April has not been found despite a substantial search by police and the local community.

Mark Bridger, 47, has been charged with murder, child abduction and perverting the course of justice.
