Foster Parents Have Children Taken Away For Being UKIP Members
Two investigations have been launched after a foster family who had children in their care taken away because they were members of the UKIP.
Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families Services, Councillor Paul Lakin, said he had ordered a review into reports that children had been removed by Rotherham social workers.
Mr Lakin said: "Membership of a political party should not stop someone fostering children. The Council takes it safeguarding responsibilities very seriously and always puts the needs of the children at the centre of that care.
"This was a decision taken by social services professionals and I have ordered an immediate investigation to establish the full facts of this decision."
The couple have told the Daily Telegraph they want the children back.
Speaking to the Telegraph, the woman said: "From a personal and selfish point of view, we would like the children back.
"But we are more concerned with the children's welfare, and we do not want them traumatised any more than they already have been. It is not going to be feasible to take these children back. They are the innocent victims in all this. They deserve better."
