Former Head Teacher Jailed For Rape
A 66-year-old former head teacher has been been sentenced to 15 years for raping and indecently assaulting an under-age girl.
Malcolm Ford, of Bell Street, Southport, committed the offences more than 20 years ago, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court was told.
Ford was the head of a primary school in the Tameside area at the time.
Sentencing, the judge said the victim had not felt able to come forward and make a complaint until 2012 due to Ford's standing in the community.
The 66-year-old also admitted similar indecent assaults against two other teenage girls.
Ford, who had a 29-year teaching career, was also a former deputy-chair of the board of governors at Edge Hill College near Ormskirk - now Edge Hill University - and was on the board for 16 years until his departure in 1997.
