Royal Marine Jailed Over Explosions

A former Royal Marine has been sentenced to three years in jail for causing a blast at a block of flats with a hair gel tub stuffed with explosives.

24-year-old Alan Peach detonated the two home-made bombs in Dundee on 7 June.

When detonated, the second device blew doors off their hinges. No-one was injured in the explosion.

The court heard how Mr Peach had begun experimenting with explosives when he became dependent on a so-called legal high, N-CAT, following his parents’ separation.

Judge Lady Stacey said it was a "great pity" that Mr Peach had got himself into this situation.

He admitted culpably and recklessly causing explosions to the risk of others.

Prosecutor Paul Kearney said Mr Peach had purchased several 1kg bags of explosive substances on the internet.

The first bomb detonated after he threw it into a garden at a block of flats in Cullen Place in Dundee on 7 June.

Peach then made the second explosive device by filling an empty hair gel tube full of powder. A fuse wire was inserted after he drilled a hole into the lid.

After gaining entry to another tenement in the same facility, he detonated the second bomb.
