12 Year Old Missing Boy Identified
The search for the missing 12-year-old British school boy who was missing on a French island has come to an end as detectives announce his body has been identified.
Pierre Barnes from Grantham in Lincolnshire was exploring the island of Porquerolles in southern France last Saturday when he disappeared.
He went missing mere hours after arriving for a half-term holiday with his family.
Police were able to identify the boy’s body from a tag sewn into a rugby shirt which had his name on it.
Detectives also used photographs to confirm his identity.
His family has yet to formally identify the body, but they have been informed as to the discovery.
An island wide search over the past week involved divers, sniffer dogs, police and local volunteers.
The boy’s father Stephen Barnes said the discovery of his son’s body would provide the family with a sense of closure.
A post-mortem will be carried out later to determine whether the boy died from drowning or from falling off a cliff.
The family said Pierre will be buried in the family tomb in a village on the outskirts of Paris.

Body Found In Search For Missing Welsh Man In Crete
North Wales Police have confirmed that a body has been found by Greek authorities searching for missing 73-year-old Arthur Jones. Mr Jones, from Denbigh, has been missing in Crete since 19 June, two days after arriving on the island for a holiday. It is believed that Mr Jones, a keen walker, may have gone out alone for a walk on the island.
