Justin Lee Collins Sentenced

Justin Lee Collins has been sentenced to 140 hours of community service for the abuse and harassment of his former partner.

The 38-year-old TV star was convicted at St Albans Crown Court for causing fear of violence to Anna Larke between January and July 2011.

The court heard how Collins kept a dossier of his partner’s previous sexual experiences and maintained a "campagn of abuse" during a seven-month relationship.

Ms Larke said she was "absolutely ecstatic" at the verdict.

Collins was ordered to carry out the community service within 18 months and to pay £3,500 in prosecution costs.

Among the abuse to which Ms Larke was subjected included being forced to sleep facing her partner, to throw away DVDs featuring actors she found attractive and having death threats made against her.

Mr Collins claimed Ms Larke was a compulsive liar. He did not show any emotion as the verdict was read to him.

Ms Larke had been battling with alcoholism throughout the relationship.

She and her family said in a statement: "We are absolutely ecstatic with the verdict and are relieved the jury were able to see through the lies of an abuser.

"We will not rest on our laurels in the wake of this good news and intend to go out into the world and use this experience to empower women to stand up to domestic abuse.

"We will also be campaigning to have emotional abuse properly recognised in law and do our utmost to end the much reported culture of celebrities using their positions to abuse people without fear of reprisal."
