Value Of Exports Increase In August

The value of exports decreased in August 2012 compared with the previous month while the value of imports increased, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Consequently the difference between non-EU imports and exports has increased. This increase in the trade gap is the largest monthly increase this year. The value of exports has continued the erratic behaviour seen since February.

The UK's non-EU exports have decreased by £1.5 billion (11.5 per cent) compared to July 2012, to £11.9 billion. Compared to August 2011, exports have increased by £0.9 billion (8.2 per cent).

The monthly import figure is only £48.6 million below the highest level of the year seen in March of this year.
