Weather Warning Issued As Three Die
Winds of up to 70mph have swept across the UK causing three deaths as roads turned treacherous and trees and branches were blown down.
A woman from New Zealand was killed in the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in south-west London on Sunday when 30mph gusts dislodged a large branch. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other fatalities were at Crimpelsham in Norfolk where a woman and a toddler, both eastern European nationals living locally, died when the BMW in which they were passengers left the road and hit a tree.
Warnings have been issued of fiercer winds and the chance of flooding in 88 areas of the south-west, midlands and north-east.
Dale Cregan Appears In Court
Dale Cregan, the man accused of murdering two police officers and two men in Greater Manchester, has appeared in court.
The 29-year-old is charged with the murders of PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes, who were killed in a gun and grenade attack in Mottram last Tuesday.
Mr Cregan is also accused of murdering Mark Short and his father, David.
He appeared at Manchester Crown Court via videolink from HMP Manchester. He was further remanded and the case was adjourned until 5 November.
£6.3m Lottery Winnings Still Unclaimed
A £6.3m lottery prize remains unclaimed by a ticket holder who bought it in Anglesey or Gwynedd, the National Lottery has revealed.
Lotto organisers Camelot said the winning ticket was bought on Saturday 8 September.
The winning Lotto numbers were 8, 15, 21, 26, 28, 32 and the bonus ball was 29. The winner has until Thursday 7 March to claim the £6,392,389 prize.
National Lottery urged people to check their old tickets.
"We're desperate to find this mystery ticket-holder and unite them with their winnings," said a spokesperson.

National Lottery ticket sales fall continues
Figures released today from National Lottery operator Camelot have revealed that there has been a massive fall in the sales of the main Lotto game. Ticket sales plunged 12% for the draw, but Camelot has pledged to return the lottery to growth with "innovative new draws".

Shop Worker Admits £1m Lottery Ticket Fraud
A shop worker tried to falsely claim a £1m Lottery prize by telling its owner she had won nothing. Farrakh Nizzar told 77-year-old great-grandmother Maureen Holt he would throw her ticket away after scanning it at a convenience store in Oldham. But he later phoned a lottery hotline saying he had bought the ticket from the store.

Public to get say in lottery grants
The public are to get more say in where lottery grants are granted under a new pilot voting scheme announced by the government. In the 'Your Pound, Your Choice' trial, the public will be able to tick boxes on voting slips at participating lottery retailers to vote for which local projects should get lottery money.
