EasyJet To Introduce Allocated Seating
EasyJet have announced that are to launch allocated seating across its entire network.
Traditionally avoided by the budget airlines as it was thought to impede fast turnaround times, the Luton-based airline have said that seat allocation did not appear to slow down journeys and is potentially more lucrative than speedy boarding schemes.
It expects 1a and 6a to be the prime picks on flights following trials on 6,000 flights this summer.
Allocated seating will be rolled out across easyJet's network from November, with all passengers allocated a seat.
Those wishing to change their seat will be charged £12 for front row and over-wing seats, £8 for berths in the four rows behind the front row, and £3 to reserve a seat anywhere else on the plane.
Passengers who don't pay for a particular spot will be randomly allocated a seat when they check in, free of charge, although the chances of getting a seat up front will be diminished.
"The majority of people will not have to pay for their seat," said an easyJet spokesman, adding that the airline would attempt to seat families together even if they don't pay for specific seats.

Liverpool named as European Capital of Culture 2008
It has been announced today that Liverpool as been chosen as the European Capital of Culture for 2008. The city's name will now go forward to the European Union who will respond next year. Culture minister Tessa Jowell said that Liverpool was a "worthy winner" of the honour.

Which? Reveals Ryanair Is Worst Airline
Ryanair came bottom of the table for short-haul airlines with a score of 34%, a new survey by Which? Travel has revealed. It scored particularly poorly for its baggage allowance, boarding arrangements, seating allocation, food and drinks, with only a one-star satisfaction rating in each of these categories.

Appeal over arson attack at football stadium
Police in Somerset have appealed for information following an arson attack on a football stadium in Midsomer Norton. The blaze broke out at the seating stand at Welton Rovers football club in North Road in the early hours of Sunday morning. Around 15 metres of seating was destroyed during the blaze, which was discovered around 5:55am on Sunday.
