Former NoW Editor Charged With Perverting The Course Of Justice
The former editor of News of the World Scotland has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice at the time of Tommy Sheridan's defamation action against the newspaper.
Bob Bird, 56,is believed he was held at around 07.30 and released four hours later.
Following his release Mr Bird said: "I just want to say that I am very sad, very disappointed that things have come to this.
"I have always done my best to do the right thing throughout the 30/40 years of my journalistic career and I will be denying the charge against me.
"On legal advice I can't say any more at the moment."
A spokesperson from Strathclyde Police said: "Strathclyde Police officers working on Operation Rubicon have arrested and charged a 56 year old man with attempting to pervert the course of justice in 2006.
"The allegation has arisen as a result of his conduct at the time of the defamation court action of Thomas Sheridan –v- News Group Newspapers Ltd.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal at Glasgow in due course."

48-Year-Old Woman Arrested In Jayden Parkinson Murder Investigation
Police investigating the death of 17-year-old Jayden Parkinson have arrested a 48-year-old woman this morning (Tuesday) on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. The body of Jayden Parkinson was found in an established grave in the Great Western Cemetery next to All Saints Church in Didcot on 18 December.

Referee Charged With Hacking FA Computer
A football referee has been charged with hacking a computer at the Football Association. 30-year-old Dean Mohared, of Woodley, Stockport is charged with perverting the course of justice and unauthorised access to computer data. Two other men have also been charged in connection with the investigation.

Shannon's Mother Remanded In Custody
Karen Matthews has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged in connection with her daughter Shannon's disappearance. The 32-year-old, from Moorside Road, Dewsbury Moor, West Yorkshire, appeared before Dewsbury Magistrates' Court charged with child neglect and perverting the course of justice.
