GCSE Results Fall For The First Time In History
The number of students awarded and A*-C grade has dropped for the first time in history, official figures have revealed.
69.4% of all GCSEs graded at least a C, which was a 0.4% decrease on last year.
Students who received the top A* and A grades were down 22.4% from 23.2%.
63.9% of entries for English were graded A*-C, compared with 65.4% last year. The figures for English literature were 76.3% at grades A*-C compared with 78.4% last year.
Around 658,000 16-year-olds in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are receiving their results today.

SFO Investigates £56m 'Property Scam'
The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has confirmed it is launching an investigation into an alleged £56 million property scam. The SFO has revealed that between 2003 and 2007 Allied Irish Bank (AIB) provided loans for the purchase of a number of UK investment properties to companies controlled by an individual who is a major suspect in the investigation.

ITV To Cut 600 Jobs After Massive Losses Announced
Broadcaster ITV is to cut 600 jobs as it has announced pre-tax losses of £2.73 billion for the year. Britain's biggest commercial broadcaster is to cut around 500 jobs in Leeds with the closure of its Kirkstall Road studios, which makes programmes such as Heartbeat and The Royal.

Students To Continue English And Maths Until They Achieve Grade C
Students will continue to study English and Maths until they manage to achieve at least a grade C, in an effort to improve numeracy and literacy skills. Students will not have to remain in school but will have to maintain some form of education or training in the subjects until the grades are reached.
