Oil Spill Fear As Tugboat Sinks Off Welsh Coast

A 17.5-metre tugboat has sunk off the Welsh coast.

Enviromental officers are on sight as it is believed that up to six tonnes of diesel and 50 litres of sump oil are onboard the tug, which began sinking in the early hours of the morning in Holyhead harbour.

Some pollutants are leaking from the vessel but the Harbour Authority has put booms in place to contain most of this, the Environment Agency said.

Although no serious environmental damage is expected, the Agency said its officers will remain on site to provide advice to those responsible for containing the pollution and during any salvage operation.
