Five-Minute Double Gold For GB

Two more golds joined the British Olympic medal tally this afternoon.

Tim Baillie and Etienne Scott topped the doubles canoe slalom with an error-free run, moments before shooter Peter Wilson won in the double trap at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Wollwich.

Team GB now has four gold medals, out of 13 in total.

Topless Feminists Arrested

Four members of a Ukrainian feminist group who protest topless have been arrested outside City Hall in London.

They accused the Olympics’ governing body of supporting "bloody" Islamist regimes.

The group, called Femen, was founded in Kiev in 2008.

It has organised topless protests against sex tourists, international marriage agencies and other societal problems.

Teenager’s Drug Death: Possible Manslaughter Charge

A coroner has adjourned the inquest into the death of a fifteen-year-old, to allow prosecutors to decide whether or not to bring manslaughter charges against a man in whose house she took drugs before she died.

Isobel Jones-Reilly was at an unsupervised party in the London home of Brian Dodgeon when she took ecstasy, in 2011.

She died thereafter.

Dodgeon has already received an eight-month suspended sentence suspended for two years for possession of class A drugs.

Further Six Arrested In No Deal Operation In Birmingham
A further six people have been arrested as part of an ongoing operation targeting suspected drug dealers in Birmingham. Police carried out a series of dawn raids on Thursday 24 September, arresting a 17-year-old man, two 19-year-olds and three men aged 21, 26 and 47.

54 arrested in swoop on suspected drug dealers
Sellers of the Big Issue were among 54 people arrested by Merseyside Police today in a crackdown on drug dealing in Liverpool city centre. Operation Manton targeted suspected drug dealers and drug users and 50 men and four women were arrested following a 15-month long investigation by Merseyside Police into drug dealing on the city's streets.

Doherty Arrested For Suspected Drug Possession
Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has been arrested for suspected drug possession. He was arrested in the Tower Hamlets area of east London at around 2am on Monday morning just hours after performing at the V festival. The 28-year-old singer is currently being held at an east London police station.

Drug Abuse Accounts For 'A Third Of Death', Says Report
Drug abuse accounts for a third of the deaths behind Scotland's higher mortality rate, according to a study published on bmj.com. Death rates in Scotland are higher than in England and Wales and the difference between the nations is increasing. Traditionally this has been blamed on the higher levels of deprivation in Scotland.

Six-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Sir Chris Hoy Retires
Six-time Olympic gold medalist Chris Hoy has announced he is to retire from cycling, ending speculation that he would compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Hoy, who won two gold medals in London alongside11 world titles, said: "I wanted to get a medal for Scotland. I didn't think I could so wanted someone else to take my place.
