Olympics Chiefs Vow To Catch Cheats

Organisers at the London 2012 Olympic Games have said their drugs testing programme is strong, emphasising: "If there are cheats, we will catch them."

It comes after a record-breaking performance by Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen, 16, drew suspicious attention.

Ye denied taking drugs to boost her performance and said there was "no problem with doping".

IOC communications director told a press conference: "We need to get real here – these are the world's best athletes competing at the highest level with records being broken all over the place."

Stun Guns Disguised As Mobile Phones

A teenage gang member has been arrested after two suspected 1.2m-volt stun guns were found in his car.

The guns, which are 24 times more powerful than police Taser guns, were disguised to look like Nokia mobile phones.

They have electrodes in the top and can kill victims if used.

The weapons were discovered after police found the 19-year-old in an uninsured Ford Focus in Edgware, North London and decided to search the vehicle.

The guns are illegal in Britain.

Superfast Broadband Will 'Future-Proof' UK Internet

The government is putting infrastructure in place for 90% of the UK to have superfast broadband by 2015.

Culture minister Ed Vaizey said the national network would allow those who want "really, really fast speed" to upgrade.

He was responding to a critical report from the House of Lords.

Stun Guns Disguised As Torches Seized
Stun guns disguised as torches and phones have been seized at Glasgow Airport by Border Force officers. Five men from Glasgow have been sentenced to 850 hours of community service, after they were caught to carrying the illegal weapons. The men had returned to Glasgow from a stag party trip to Thailand.

Man Jailed For Smuggling Stun Guns
A man from Hampshire who attempted to smuggle 8 stun guns into the UK through Heathrow airport has been jailed for 20 months. Iain Charles Pitt, 43, of Freshwood Drive in Yateley, was stopped by border force officers as he passed through the customs channel at Heathrow terminal 3, after arriving on a flight from Bangkok on 10 January 2012.

Police Seize Large Haul Of Dangerous Weapons In London
Police have seized a large haul of dangerous weapons after searching two properties and a car in north-west London. The addresses, NW10 and W8, were searched by police on 20 July.

Met To Spend Over £800,000 On Taser Rollout
Over £800,000 is being spent equipping Met police response vehicles with Tasers, despite growing concerns over their use. The total budget for the weapons is £817,864 for the first stage of the rollout in the capitols 32 boroughs.

Minister Unveils Police Taser Plans
Police officers across England and Wales could soon be armed with Taser stun guns, under new plans. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced that front-line staff in all 43 forces will be trained to use the weapons, which are currently only used by small units of firearms officers.
