PM Stopped And Asked For ID On Olympics Journey
A soldier on Olympics duty stopped the Prime Minister and asked to see his identification.
David Cameron praised the serviceman for being "on his marks" as he made his way back to Downing Street after visiting the Olympic Park in Stratford by Tube.
He had been to the Aquatics Centre, where he saw Team GB’s diving duo Tom Daley and Peter Waterfield come fourth in the 10m sychronised diving final.
Mr Cameron told ITV London Tonight: "I was stopped going down Whitehall by a soldier. I didn’t have my papers."
It is believed the leader of the Conservative Party continued on his way when the soldier realised who he was – probably with a few blushes on the soldier's side.
Mr Cameron appeared on ITV London Tonight to speak about public transport being the preferred method of transportation for many officials.
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, revealed that many Games lanes on the roads have been re-opened to the public as they are not needed due to Games travelers using the Tube and bus networks.
Mr Johnson said: "Obviously the transport, we're pleased with the way it's working so far, everybody at London Bridge was working well, the Tube is working well. We've been able to turn off a lot of the Games lanes because so many people are going by public transport."
Mr Johnson said Jacques Rogge, the president of the IOC, took the Docklands Light Railway to the Games rather than traveling by car.
