Scotland To Introduce Gay Marriage
Scotland is set to become the first part of the UK to introduce gay marriage after the SNP government announced plans to make the change.
Scottish ministers confirmed they would bring forward a bill on the issue.
Political leaders, equality groups welcomed the move, but it has been strongly opposed by the Catholic Church and Church of Scotland.
Olympic Train Strike Called Off
Union officials have called off a public sector strike, involving immigration and passport workers, planned for the eve of the Olympics.
The Public and Commercial Services union said the government had agreed to the creation of hundreds of new jobs.
Thursday is expected to be Heathrow airport's busiest day ever as thousands of spectators arrive for the Games.
Teacher At Wellington College Guilty Of Sexual Abuse
A teacher at one of the country's most prestigious private schools has been found guilty of sexually abusing five young boys.
Bruce Roth, who taught maths at £30,000-a-year Wellington college in Crowthorne, Berkshire, until he was arrested, groomed and performed sex acts on three boys at the boarding school and two at King's school in Rochester, Kent, where he taught previously.
Roth strenuously denied the 17 charges against him, accusing his victims of conspiring against him because they did not like him as a teacher and calling one of them "sinister".

Teacher Convicted For Pupils' Sex Assault
A former maths teacher has been convicted of the sexual assault of two former pupils dating back to the 1980s. Stephen Skelton, 63, a former maths teacher from Ealing Abbey was convicted at Isleworth Crown Court on two counts of sexual assault on two males, aged under 16 years at the time of the offences, in 1984 and 1993.

Specialist schools improving faster than other schools
Specialist schools are performing better than other schools in England, a report by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) has reported. The education watchdog found that pupils in specialist schools have performed better at GCSEs since 1998 and the rate of improvement in GCSE results was also faster in these schools.
