Life Imprisonment For Girlfriend Murder
A man who brutally attacked and stabbed his girlfriend 57 times, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Zakaria Mohamed, 29, unemployed and formerly of Inville Road, London SE17 was ordered to serve a minimum of 26 years imprisonment for the murder of Amina Adan.
Amina, 33, a recruitment consultant for Al Jezeera was murdered on 6 November last year at her houseshare in 75 Missenden in Inville Road, London SE17.
On Sunday 6 November 2011 at 01:44hrs, police were called by the terrified occupants of 75 Missenden who said that they had witnessed Mohamed violently assaulting Miss Adan.
Mohamed was seen to punch, kick and attack Amina with knives and shards from a broken mirror. When other tenants tried to intervene, they too were assaulted and threatened, forcing them to flee the property or seek solace on a balcony.
Two police officers who were nearby attended and made their way inside the property to be faced with Mohamed who ran at them with knives.
The officers retreated and soon further colleagues arrived. CS Gas and Taser were used in order to arrest him and get to Miss Adan who by now was lying on the floor in the hallway.
Paramedics performed open-heart surgery to try to save her life, however she was pronounced dead at 02:37hrs.
Amina suffered a year of domestic violence after meeting Mohamed who at the time of her murder was subject to a community order following a conviction for assaulting her. However he had persuaded her to take him back shortly before he killed her.
Detective Chief Inspector Charles King, Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "Zakaria Mohamed launched the most violent of attacks on Amina Adan, his girlfriend whom he had already subjected to domestic violence during their relationship. Mohamed showed no remorse for his actions and declined to speak during his police interviews.
"I am pleased that he accepted the charge against him and saved a number of witnesses who traumatically witnessed much of the attack on Amina from having to attend court and relive the terrible events of that night."
