NatWest Technical Problems 'Ongoing'
NatWest customers will be suffering another day of inconvenience as the bank continues to experience technical problems that are leaving millions of people without access to their money.
On Thursday the bank admitted it was suffering "technical issues" which meant customers' balances were not being updated leaving some unable to pay for goods and services.
Current accounts, savings accounts and offset mortgage accounts have all been affected, as have some RBS and Ulster Bank customers.
NatWest could not confirm when the problems started, but customers were complaining throughout Thursday.
A statement on its website said this morning: "Unfortunately we are once again experiencing technical issues with our systems and account balances have not updated properly overnight. This means where money has gone into a customer's account, there may be a delay in it appearing on their balance."
The statement went on to apologise for the "unacceptable inconvenience" caused to customers.
The bank kept branches open until 7pm on Thursday to deal with customer queries and opened those again at 8am this morning.
A spokesman for the bank said NatWest still did not have any information on what was causing the problems or whether there had been a recent change in its payments systems that had triggered it.
He also clarified the situation for customers confused about whether their money was actually there but that they just could not see it. "For some of those customers the money has not actually made it over into their account. It is not just that they cannot see it," he said.
The bank is due to make a further statement later on Friday. One of the things the statement may address is the possibility of giving all NatWest customers temporary access to a fee free overdraft until the situation is resolved.

RBS, NatWest And Ulster Bank 'Getting Back To Normal'

HSBC Loses Customers' Details Disc
The HSBC bank has admitted that a computer disc, containing details of 370,000 customers, has been lost. The disc contains customers' names, dates of birth and levels of life assurance cover. It is understood that the disc went missing four weeks ago after it was sent via courier from the bank's Southampton offices.

HMRC Warns Against ‘Phishy’ Email Scam
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is warning taxpayers to be vigilant following a surge of fake ‘phishing’ emails sent out by fraudsters, following the 31 January Self Assessment tax return filing deadline. The email informs the recipient they are due a tax rebate, and provides a click-through link to a replica of the HMRC website.

Beware 'Tax' Scammers, Says Revenue
Taxpayers are being urged to be vigilant following reports that thieves are making phone calls pretending to be the taxman. The fraudsters inform taxpayers they are due a tax rebate, and ask for their bankcard details over the phone. They then attempt to take money from the account using the details provided.

Energy Suppliers To Return £400m To Former Customers
Ofgem is calling on large suppliers to make sure money is returned to their former customers after its analysis revealed that the companies hold more than £400m in credit from closed accounts. This builds on recent commitments by most major suppliers to automatically refund surpluses to current direct debit customers.
