Ladies Leg It To Stock Up On Fake Tan
Sales of fake tan specifically for legs have rocketed this week thanks to the hot weather causing British women to expose their legs for the first time this year, according to a high street retailer.
They reported fake tanning lotions made just for legs are up 105% on last week and 17% up on this time last year.
Due to temperatures reaching 23°C a record high for March, brave Brits are baring their legs but ensuring that they avoid the pasty winter look by plastering their legs in fake tan.
Vicky Hewitt, spokesperson for Debenhams said: "Our sales show that ladies are legging it to Debenhams to stock up on fake tan and get a healthy glow from hip to toe.
"We’ve created an exclusive ‘tan tone’ chart to help our customers achieve a natural sun kissed look rather than imitating an Oompa-Loompa.
"We want customers to embrace the sunshine and proudly expose their legs rather than hiding behind a pair of tights. Think Pippa Middleton rather than Magda from There’s Something About Mary."
Research shows that a surprising 73% of self tanners only apply fake tan to their legs and not the rest of their body in order to save time when getting ready for a night out.
Continues Hewitt: "Our beauty hall consultants are often approached by customers who aren’t confident about choosing the right colour match for their legs."
The tan tone chart covers a whole spectrum of colours from pale and interesting to radioactive orange. It resembles a paint colour guide so it’s easy to get the right shade whether you want to look like you’ve had a long holiday in the Caribbean or caught some rays during a weekend in Bournemouth.
