Possible Jail Term For Student Who Mocked Fabrice Muamba

Liam Stacey, a 21-year-old student, could face a jail term for inciting racial hatred after his comments on Twitter mocking footballer Fabrice Muamba.

Muamba was left fighting for his live after he suffered a heart attack during an FA Cup match on March 17.

Police were later inundated with complaints after Stacey’s comments on Twitter as the 23-year-old midfielder lay on the pitch.

The first of his messages began with "LOL [laugh out loud]. Fuck Muamba. He's dead!!!"

As a number of people challenged him over his views he responded with a further string of racially offensive comments.

Stacey was released on conditional bail but was warned that all options would be considered when he is sentenced on Monday.
