Police Hunt Racist Acid Attacker

Police in Pendleton are hunting a man after he threw acid at a woman in a racist attack.

The 29-year-old woman was pushing her baby in a pram through an underpass on Broad Street in Pendleton when the man, said to be in his 40s, approached.

He made a sexual and racist remark and then threw a corrosive liquid at her.

A police spokesman said it was believed to have been a random attack on the woman and it was being treated as a hate crime.

None of the liquid hit the child and the woman was being treated for burns to her chest and back.

The man was described as being white, of stocky build, 5ft 10in to 6ft 2in tall, had very short, dark hair with a straight hair line and a bald patch at the back.

He has blue eyes, a dimple in his chin and a red mark like a burn on his bottom lip.

He was wearing a sleeved dark-grey jumper with a round neck, black tracksuit bottoms with a grey and white stripe down each leg and black trainers.

14-year-Old Sentenced For Child Rape

A 14-year-old Birmingham boy who admitted three counts of raping another boy aged seven has been given a three-year youth rehabilitation order.

The teenager, who cannot be named, was described at Birmingham Crown Court as highly vulnerable.

Judge Melbourne Inman ruled that he should undergo intensive counselling and treatment.

The charges relate to offences dating back to February 2011. The court heard the case had caused hostility locally.

As a result, the boy and his family had been forced to leave the area.

Man Posing As A Barrister Jailed

A man who posed as a barrister to represent a friend he had met in prison has been jailed for 18 months.

57-year-old David Sydney Evans walked into the advocates' room at Plymouth Crown Court wearing a gown and wig, and went to the cells to visit the friend.

However the judge in the case picked up on a series of “hopelessly wrong” legal submissions.

Mr Evans had previously been convicted for pretending to be a psychologist.
