Schoolboy Dies During Rugby Match
A schoolboy has died after collapsing during a rugby match on Tuesday in Kidderminster.
The 16-year-old was a pupil at Haybridge High in Hagley and was taking part in a rugby match against Kidderminsters Baxter College.
"We are all terribly shocked and upset by what has happened," said Tony Homer, the chairman of governors for Haybridge High School.
"The school will offer all the support we possibly can to those affected," he added.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said the boy was not breathing and members of the public were performing CPR when their crews arrived. He was then taken by air ambulance to Birmingham Children’s Hospital at 16:30.
A spokesman said: "Ambulance crews took over resuscitation attempts and advanced life support was carried out at the scene.
"The boy was transferred to Birmingham Children's Hospital by air ambulance for further emergency treatment.
"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews and hospital staff, nothing could be done to save the boy and he passed away shortly after arriving at hospital."
