EBAY Launch Ticketing Website - Stubhub

EBay has announced it will be launching its own secondary ticketing websites, Studhub.

The site was acquired by eBay in 2007 in a deal worth £197m ($310m) and will be a rival to existing sites Seatwave and Viagogo, which was the subject of a recent Dispatches documentary on Channel 4.

Viagogo was originally launched by Stubhub founder Eric Baker and sought a high court injunction to stop C4 airing The Great Ticket Scandal, a programme critical of the businesses practices including inflating prices.

Launched in San Francisco in 2000, StubHub claims to be the largest player in the US, hoping to distance itself from similar accusations they claim to have the highest customer satisfaction ratings in the ticketing industry. It backs up purchases with a guarantee system, called Fan Protect, which guards against fraud and ensures that buyers get what they pay for.

A beta version of the new UK site launches today and already has some 140,000 tickets to events including Madonna and Coldplay.

They are also planning to open a retail ticket outlet in Great Portland Street in Central London.
