MOD Confirms Names Of Six Soldiers Killed In Helmand

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the names of the six service personnel believed to have been killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Sergeant Nigel Coupe, 33, Corporal Jake Hartley, 20, Private Anthony Frampton, 20, Private Christopher Kershaw, 20, Private Daniel Wade, 20, and Private Daniel Wilford, 21, are believed to be dead after their armoured vehicle was caught in an explosion in southern Afghanistan.

The families of the soldiers have been informed.

The Secretary of State for Defence, Philip Hammond, said: "This tragic incident brings home to us the dangers that are faced on a daily basis by the men and women of our Armed Forces deployed in Afghanistan. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the six soldiers who are missing, believed killed, and also with their colleagues, both in Afghanistan and the UK, whose brave work continues or is about to start."

Man Jailed For 20 Years For The Murder Of His Son
A man has been sentenced today to 20 years' imprisonment at the Old Bailey for the murder of his three-year-old son in a frenzied knife attack. Paul Deya, now 32, murdered Wilson Deya in their home on the Lynton Estate in Southwark on 23 November 2009.

Men Found Guilty Of Singh Murder
After a six-week trial, two men have been found guilty of murdering a shopkeeper during a robbery at his village store in West Yorkshire. In February, Gurmail Singh was repeatedly hit over the head with bottles of wine from the shelves of Cowcliffe Convenience Store in Cowcliffe, Huddersfield.

Over 20 Hurt In Rail Crossing Crash
Twenty-one people have been injured after a train collided with a sewage tanker at a level crossing in Suffolk on Tuesday. The incident happened around 5:30pm at Little Cornard, near Sudbury, when the lorry was struck by the 17:31 National Express East Anglia Service from Sudbury to Marks Tey.

Arrests Made Over Fatal Stabbing
Three men have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager in east London earlier this year. Godwin Lawson, a 17-year-old footballer from Enfield, north London, died after he was stabbed in Stamford Hill on 27 March. Two other men, aged 18 and 20, were also stabbed during the incident.
