Police Called To Commons Bar Fight

Eric Joyce, a Labour MP, has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an alleged bar fight in the House of Commons.

Scotland Yard officers confirmed they detained a man in his 50s who is currently being held in custody at a central London police station.

Conservative MP, Stuart Andrew, has alleged he was assaulted in the Strangers Bar in the Commons and that he may have been headbutted and punched by the Falkirk MP.

Before becoming MP for Falkirk in 2000 Mr Joyce had served in the Army Education Corps. He had served as Parliamentary Private Secretary, from 2003 to 2009, to a number of government ministers, and in 2010 he resigned as Shadow Northern Ireland minister after pleading guilty to failing to provide a breath test.

The investigation continues.
