Occupy London had appealed the eviction notice issued by City of London Corporation but three High Court Judges ruled the action to be “lawful and justified”. Calls Made for New 'Presumed Dead' Law
Justice committee MP’s have made a call for a new ‘presumed dead’ law. In its report the committee calls for legislation based on Scotland’s 1977 Presumption of Death Act to replace the current “legislative patchwork” across the UK. In Scotland courts will grant presumption of death after seven years whereas in England and Wales there is no time limit to how long a persons affairs remain in their name when there is no death certificate. The family of Richey Edwards, former member of the Manic Street Preachers missing since 1995, have said the current system is “very difficult”.
Eden Project Unveil Renewable Energy Installation
The Eden Project have revealed the UK’s first ever, employee owed, renewable energy installation. The Whitney based company Ebico, the UK’s only not-for-profit electricity supplier, lent money to a new company to install the 200 solar panels on storage buildings at Eden. Employees are now being offered the chance to buy shares in the new business with the proceeds of any sales going into paying back Edico. Shareholders will then receive a percentage of feed-in tariff income for the next 25 years.
