Brit Awards Success For Adele
Arguably the highlight of last years Brit awards Adele has achieved a definitive exclamation mark on another highlight year with the 23-year-old singer winning the awards for best British female and best British album.
With 17m sales of her album, 21, it was a distinctly more confident Adele at last night’s awards who received a standing ovation when she collected her award for best British female from Kyle Minogue. Thanking her record label, independent XL, she said, “No one makes me feel like you, so thank you so much.”
Accepting the award for best album, the key honour of the night, she said she was “proud to be British” but was cut short by host James Corden, her was told to rush her to make way for Blur, flipping ‘the finger’ as she left the stage. “I flipped the finger but it wasn't to my fans. I'm sorry if I offended anyone but it was the suits that offended me.”
Corden later expressed his unhappiness to ITV2, "I don't quite understand why I was made to… I just feel bad about having to cut Adele off.”
Receiving the award for outstanding contribution to music Blur made their first appearance in 17 years, performing versions of greatest hits Girls and Boys, Song 2, Parklife and This is a Low. Blur were also announced yesterday as the headline act for the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics.
Other awards went to Ed Sheeran, best British male and best breakthrough act, One Direction for best British single, Bruno Mars, best international solo male, Lana Del Ray, international breakthrough act and Rihanna took the best international female award.

Hairspray Scoops Four Olivier Awards

Welsh soul singer Duffy walked away with a trio of gongs last night at the annual Brit Awards. The 24-year-old was close to tears as she accepted the accolades in three categories, for Best British Album ('Rockferry'), Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Female Artist.

Irish Eyes Smile At Oscars
Irish luck prevailed at the 80th Academy Awards with Wicklow-based Daniel Day Lewis scooping the best actor award and Frames lead singer Glen Hansard sharing the best original song. Dark comedy ‘No Country For Old Men’ was a big winner with director brothers Joel and Ethan Coen picking up best picture, director and adapted screenplay.

Mirren leads the winners at the Golden Globes
Dame Helen Mirren won two awards at the Golden Globe on a night where British talent triumphed. Dame Helen collected the award for Best Actress in a TV movie or mini-series for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in 'Elizabeth I' as well as Best Actress in a drama for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears' drama 'The Queen'.

Cold shoulder for ‘Cold Mountain’ in Oscar nominations
One of the front-runners in this year’s Academy Award race has been dramatically snubbed in the nominations list. ‘Cold Mountain’, the lavish American Civil War epic, directed by Anthony Minghella, only picked up two major nominations – ‘Best Actor’ for Jude Law and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nomination for Renee Zellweger.
