Appeal For Woman After Fatal Thames Jump

Police are appealing for information to identify a woman who died after jumping into the River Thames.

The unidentified woman was seen to jump in the river from the Albert Bridge at around 12.30pm on Monday January 23.

The Marine Policing Unit attended the scene and the woman was pulled from the water, before being taken to St Mary's Hospital where she died later that day.

She had no identification on her and police are at a loss as to her name or origin.

Officers from Kensington and Chelsea said they have been trying to establish the identity of the woman but so far all efforts have proved to be fruitless.

The woman is described as white, of European appearance, aged approximately 35-55 years, approx 5ft 7ins tall and of medium build. She had collar length, grey hair and no discernable markings on her body.

She was found wearing flat, black 'Zone' shoes, black shirt, black tights, three black jumpers and a thigh length black velvet material coat.

A post mortem examination at Westminster Mortuary on Friday 27 January was inconclusive, and we await further toxicology results.

The watch and jewellery are described as a ladies 'Sekonda' watch with a relatively new leather strap. It is still working and is currently set one hour ahead, European time.

Other items include a necklace consisting of a large pink stone in a silver coloured mount on a gold coloured chain; a gold coloured bracelet, which was worn on the right wrist; a gold coloured ring with a large green stone worn on the right middle finger; two door keys.

She was also found in possession of a cigarette lighter and a small amount of loose change.

Police Sergeant Debbie Bailey, from the Kensington and Chelsea Missing Persons Unit, who are leading the investigation, said: "We are appealing to anyone who recognises this woman, or the items she was wearing, to get in contact with us.

“This woman may have family and loved ones who are unaware of what has happened and it is vital we ensure they are made aware of her death. Please call us with any relevant information you may have."
