UK And France To Sign Nuclear Agreement

David Cameron is to meet with the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, to sign a deal on a cooperative nuclear energy development plan.

Despite their high profile dispute over the European financial deal last year, the government said both leaders were committed to nuclear energy "as part of a diversified energy mix".

The agreement is expected to create a number of commercial deals in the nuclear energy field, worth more than £500m and creating 1,500 UK jobs.

Friday's meeting, taking place in Paris, will also see defence plans discussed while the joint development of a future unmanned aircraft is also expected.

A statement from Downing Street said: "This joint declaration will signal our shared commitment to the future of civil nuclear power, setting out a shared long term vision of safe, secure, sustainable and affordable energy, that supports growth and helps to deliver our emission reductions targets."
