Appeal Launched For Valentines Day Murder

Police are appealing for information on the two year anniversary of a Valentine's Day murder. Detectives investigating the murder of Mark Corcoran on 14 February 2010 said they are reiterating their appeals for information two years on. A reward of up to £20,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the murder of Mark Corcoran on Valentine's day. Mark Corcoran, aged 26 (dob 26.5.83), from Croydon had stumbled into the Subitha Food and Wine shop on Whitehorse Lane, SE25 asking for help, shortly before he collapsed. A post-mortem examination at Croydon Mortuary on Monday 15 February gave cause of death as a stab wound to the chest. Police believe that Mark was stabbed within approximately 100 yards of the shop and had managed to stumble towards the shop to ask for help. Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or spoken with Mark that night. They would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area of the Crystal Palace football ground, who may have seen or heard anything. An incident room was opened at Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons (Homicide and Serious Crime Command).

Surrey Police Issue Warning Over Fraudsters

Surrey Police is warning residents of an increase in fraud offences committed against elderly and vulnerable people. The scam involves fraudsters obtaining people’s bank cards by using false pretences. The scam works by the victim getting a phone call, or number of phone calls from someone claiming to be from their bank. The caller says there is a problem with their bank card and it will need replacing. The victim is told a courier has been arranged to pick up the faulty card and replace it with a new bank card. The caller will also ask for their bank details, including PIN number and bank balance. Alternatively another tactic is to leave a courier-style “we have missed you” notice through the victim’s letterbox, purporting to be from the bank. The sole purpose of this is to get the victim to ring the number on the slip, but it is actually offenders who pick up the phone call. Once the victim has been drawn in to the scam, a person dressed as a courier will arrive at their front door to take the card. Significant sums of cash have been taken from victims’ accounts throughout the county. Detective Inspector Paul Rymarz of the Cross Border Investigation Team said: “We have seen a rise in the number of fraud incidents committed in the last few months. It is important that people are aware of the scam, which targets the most vulnerable."
